Our Story

At Chelsea Clock, we don't just measure time — we honor the way you spend it. Built on American craftsmanship and maritime heritage since 1897, our timepieces mark milestones, become gifts, and elevate the spaces where life is fully lived — heirlooms designed to carry your story for generations.

American, Since 1897:

Est. 1897, still built in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Every Chelsea Clock has been designed and made in the same city for over 125 years — a rare continuity in American manufacturing.

A fixture in the White House

Since FDR placed a Chelsea Ship's Bell Clock on his desk in the 1930s — the tradition continued through the Cabinet Room and beyond, from Truman to Biden, including a custom clock installed in 2020.

Trusted by the U.S. Military

Built to Navy specification since the early 1900s, Chelsea clocks sailed aboard the USS Saratoga through WWII combat and accompanied Admiral Richard E. Byrd to the South Pole in 1928. The Army connection dates to the M2 Messenger Center Clock, once used to coordinate field communications — a legacy carried today in Chelsea's officially licensed Army collection.

Maritime Heritage

Our Ship's Bell Clocks don't just tell time — they strike it, using the same watch-bell code sailors have read for generations, a nautical tradition also reflected in Chelsea's history as a yachting and regatta trophy.

Precision, Built to last.

Every Ship's Bell Clock is built the way it's always been — technique passed down, one clockmaker to the next.

Forged brass case that is lathed, not stamped — exceptional strength, weight, & permanence you feel the moment its held.

Each movement is hand-assembled in our Massachusetts workshop.

Every dial is hand-silvered to perfection.

Each Ship's Bell mechanism is individually tested for weeks before it earns its place in a finished instrument.

The same craftsmanship behind collaborations with Rolls Royce, Tiffany & Co. and Ralph Lauren has found its way onto the desks and into the collections of people who value permanence over trend. Unique Chelsea timepieces have belonged to Admiral Richard E. Byrd, Winston Churchill, John F Kennedy, John Wayne, Elvis Presely, Elton John, and the Grateful Dead to name a few. Your Chelsea Clock joins that same legacy.
