Chelsea Clock Trophies to Honor Annual Vineyard Race Winners

Friday kicks off the annual Vineyard Race, hosted by the Stamford Yacht Club each Labor Day weekend. For the 4th consecutive year we are honored to provide coveted Chelsea Ship's Bell clocks for select winners. Over the years the race has become a classic American yachting event, punctuated by a 238-mile course that stretches from Connecticut's Shippan Point, through the oft treacherous Plum Gut, past panoramic Block Island, and on to the light tower that marks Buzzard's Bay--then back around to finish in Stamford Harbor. Since 1932, this challenging event has attracted some of the world's best sailors. Winners often credit their good fortune to a keen knowledge of local waters a little bit of luck.

As noted on the official race website, National Sailing Hall of Famer Bob Bavier called the Vineyard race one of the great "yachting classics," saying:

"The greatest distance races of the world have several things in common - a challenging course, competitive fleets and an interesting array of famous yachts. By those standards, the Stamford Yacht Club's Vineyard Race rates close to the top. Like a miniature Fastnet, the Vineyard has a combination of coastal cruising, where currents play a big role, a stretch of ocean sailing, and a mark to round - the Buzzards Bay tower - before returning."

Please join us in wishing the best of luck to all the brave participants!
