Homes for Our Troops, founded in 2004, is a national charity that is working hard to make a big difference on a local level for many American veterans across the country. The top-rated charity constructs specially-adapted homes for severely disabled veterans and donates them to former servicemen and servicewomen and their immediate families.
To date, the Massachusetts chapter of Homes for Our Troops has donated five homes to deserving veterans across the state and is currently embarking on a major fundraising program to help build a sixth home for former Marine Sergeant Joshua Bouchard. Bouchard, who survived the loss of his leg, a broken back and traumatic brain injury while serving in Afghanistan, is currently recuperating at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. Once released, he plans to return to Massachusetts, but will need a specially-adapted house to accommodate his needs and support an independent lifestyle.
The Merrimack Valley Celebration of Freedom, in conjunction with Homes for Our Troops, is organizing a number of special events to raise the funding necessary to build Sgt. Bouchard’s home, including the Freedom Dinner and Auction, to be held at the Andover Country Club on October 15, 2011. Chelsea Clock is proud to join other local and national companies in supporting this event with a number of specially selected auction items.
“Homes for Our Troops is doing some truly amazing work,” says JK Nicholas, CEO of Chelsea Clock. “They are completely dedicated to serving men and women who have selflessly given to our country. And we are thrilled and honored to play a role in supporting their ongoing efforts.”
Homes for Our Troops hopes to draw over 300 guests to the Freedom Dinner, with a fundraising goal of $100,000. Says Sgt. Bouchard, “Receiving this home from Homes for Our Troops will give me a new sense of freedom and take away the worry about where I will live and if my home is accessible to me.”
All of us at Chelsea Clock wish Homes for Our Troops all the best in achieving their goals and helping to make a difference for Sgt. Bouchard and many other deserving American veterans.
